The PS3 80Gig - can already from Original Play Games from any Region-
PAL - USA - JAP all OK
It Cannot However Play BluRay Movies from all 3 World Regions - or it Cannot Play DVD Movies from all 8 World Regions.
There is no modchips for the PS3 for these tasks Yet.

A. At the moment only developers PS3 mod-chips for The Playstation 3 console are available such as the INFECTUS 2 by Team INFECTUS -
Many Games Developers -may utilize protection on software titles to prevent them being copied but new burners and PC Software can always copy the software identical to make perfectly Legal Back up copies that work.

I have a Hong Kong PS3, however as Blue Ray/DVD movies and PS1/2 games are region coded I cant play Australian titles on my HK PS 3 machine - I have the 60 gig model - Are there any PS3 modchips or mods with a way of removing the region coding on Blueray, DVD, PS1/2 discs for my Playstation 3 console ?

Q. OI !! MODCHIP WIZARD ! I buy NTSC USA U/C PS3, I would like to know more about PS3 Mod chip to play the Cheaper Asia Playstation 3 Games ? I was in Guang Dou China where I saw a few shops with some NTSC Import PS3 Games for sale very cheap I did not buy any not knowing if they were PS3 games that would run on my PS3 Console without a chip. Can the Playstation 3 mod chip which will be released soon be able to play import PS2 Games.
A. Playstation 3 Softmod and or PS3 mod chips will purposefully allow the Playstation 3 console to play original (PS2) and back up copy games from other regions as well as Region restricted Blueray DVD movies - also a successful PS3 mod chip should enable proper playback of all PS2 games - Whether or not the PS3 Hard drive can be used to store and play games from ( Like Xbox HD Loader and PS2 HD Loader ) we will have to wait patiently.
Most (about 98%) of Import NTSC PS3 Game titles will work on a non modified PAL PS3 console so you could have bought the games you saw in China without any concern.

Q. HAIT !! MODCHIP WIZARD ! I understand that the newest release of local PS3's (40GB) have -no- backwards compatability with PS2 games, due to Sony removing the EE chip that was released with the 60GB models.
Is there any possibility of pulling an old EE chip out of a PS2, and dropping it into the appropriate place on a PS3's chipset?
Did they leave the mount for it still there? If they did, then this would be an -excellent- way to make money!
Or, alternatively, would there be anyway (presumably there would *have* to be) to 'piggyback' the EE chip to get it to where it is supposed to go?

A. Sony has currently used 2 methods to play PS2 games ( Backwards Compatibility ) on Playstation 3
1. Hardware - An actual Processor or Chip was installed in early model PS3 to play PS2 Games
2. Software - this allowed the PS3 to play PS2 games in Emulation ( no extra chip is installed in these PS3 consoles and no provision is made )
Sony stopped using these methods - on current model Playstation 3 consoles.
As soon as the new Playstation 3 Modchips are available they will be capable of storing Playstation 2 Software emulation - as most modchips for all consoles have one or two Re-Writable memory Flash chips on board.
