Dear Sir 


I have a Sony playstation 2 (SCPH-79004) with board GH-062-02 and I want to
modify it to play free games, boot on import, backups, ntsc, pal games. 


I read that there are a lot of (mod)chips available (e.g. Infinity 1.88) but I
don't know the differences between them.


Please can you explain me what kind of chips are available for my board and
what are the differences between them. Can you also give me the price of
this chip and the pictures how to install the chip on the board. 


Is the modification directly active when the chip is soldered on the board or must
the chip be programmed / updated by myself

Q. I have heard some mod chips can burn the laser is this right and can it be avoided?

A. If your model is large model or PS2® slim either SCPH75002 or SCPH77002 or SCPH90002 these models do not be concerned with laser burnout - they do not need laser fix- decent modchips have protective circuits built into the firmware of the mod itself. Only PSTwo® slim SCPH 70002 and PS2® Large model SCPH 50002 version 9 require additional hardware for laser fix. Although you are doing a favour to your consoles PSTwo® laser by keeping the unit unplugged when not in use and using only clean discs. Dirty and heavily scratched discs cause a shortening of the life of the PS2 laser.

 

Q. I have built a few electronic projects over the years .  I’m ok with a soldering iron.  How complex is putting these mod chips into the system?

A. Playstation® 2 consoles especially SCPH 70002 SCPH 75002 SCPH 77002 SCPH 79002 SCPH 90002 require fine point soldering and should not be attempted unless you are a capable fine point solderer.
