Gamecube consoles have 3 different main boards known as Verion A , B , C . The model number can be found on the console or main board. All gamecube modchips are compatible with each main board type. The Qoob mods are installed on the main board the Xeno GC is installed on the laser drive main board .

 

After installing a mod chip there are many homebrew applications that can be used as well as playing all countries games and copied DVD games. Replacement lids can be installed so regular size DVD media can be played or blank mini dvd recordables are available and cheap.

Yes, It's possible to softmod the gamecube. All methods culminate to the same thing; loading the GCOS app to allow you to boot backups. To boot GCOS, you can either USE PSO+BBA or Action Replay or MAX Drive Pro. Action Replay and MAX Drive Pro require either an official Nintendo memory card (mem card 59 is enough) or an SD card with SD card adapter. It's easier with SD card. * Games can be stored and played from the SD Card .

BTW, the Viper and Qoob aren't the only GC (* also Xeno GC ) modchips out there. There's also the NinjaMod as well as the RipperCG. They don't seem to be as popular though and don't have some of the things the Viper and Qoob have.
