Q.
Myself dealing with modchip installs on the ps2 and wii.
I have a problem, that you might be able to answer based on your
experience. I would be glad if you can direct me towards a solution.
So, recently I have had several ps2 systems (all slims, 7000x and
7700x) that upon installing a modbo 4 or modbo 760 chip despite
checking all soldering points, also for shortcuts, refuse to display
anything on the screen. They boot up, the vent starts spinning, and the
dvd drive also seeks for a disc, the laser turns on, etc, everything
works, but there's nothing to display. I have checked it on several
tv's nothing. checked the cable too with other ps2-s, it's fine.
This is the 3rd system that I have encountered this glitch, and
it's a pain in the ass. Also, when I remove the chip completely the ps2
still does not show anything on the screen.
Do you have any idea what could have gone wrong? Is there anything
I can do to solve it? Or I just need to buy an other ps2 to replace
this one? (I hope not, again...)
Any idea would be welcome, and I thank you for your time in advance.
Best regards,
A fellow modder

Hello !!
From a Rational point of view- there is remaining a short on the board- ei a small bridge on 2 points likely the bios chip area- - check MNOP and QTUVRW and carefully use solder braid to resoak / clean the area and try again.
From a non rational point of view - a Bridge may not be apparent even by a multi meter but a small amount of too much flux or solder residue might cause a blackscreen so clean also w isoprpyl alcohol.
I have had many black screen and all recovered after careful approach - on 9000 series a short may cause the Fuse to blow on the 5V connection but not on 7 PS2 series.

Hello!!
Thanks for the reply, I know about the BIOS chip shorts, I had one time a short on the modchip itself (modbo 760, M and N points),
that was not apparent. After that I always check for shorts with a multimeter, and use alcohol to clean up the remaining flux. This was not that.
I have found an italian modder website where especially with the 7700x series, where you need to solder onto the '680' (68 ohm resistor bridge) 4 wires for the BIOS,
those resistors tend to blow - even if you keep the iron for a few second there only, and they become not 68 ohm but multi-megaohm valued. Well this happened to me...
I had an old 7000x series slim, which was not working (cause I have lifted some wires off the motherboard accidentally, and anyway the laser assembly I already sold from it)
and it had some of these 680 bridges. Using a heatgun I desoldered some of these and the replaced i on the 7700x. After that everything come back alive.
Lesson learn: do not solder on the legs of the 680 bridges :) It took me severla hours to realize that, as this was the second 7700x that 'gone wrong' like this.
Thanks for your reply by the way!

Q.
Dear Sir I have a Sony playstation 2 (SCPH-79004)
with board GH-062-02 and I want to
modify it to play free games, boot on import, backups, ntsc, pal games.
I read that there are a lot of (mod)chips available (e.g. Infinity 1.88) but I
don't know the differences between them.
Please can you explain me what kind of chips are available for my board and
what are the differences between them. Can you also give me the price of
this chip and the pictures how to install the chip on the board.
Is the modification directly active when the chip is soldered on the board or must
the chip be programmed / updated by myself
(I expect that the FPGA is pogrammed)?
Regards

There are Many Fine Modchips for Playing all region Discs from Japan USA and Europe and Australia and Asia as well as Playing Safety Copies or Backups of Games Discs and Making The PS2 DVD Player as DVD Region Free to allow any Region DVD Play.
There is no Need to Buy Chips such as DMS and other expensive PS2 Chips - as the chips in the Lists below are Manufactured Very High Quality and perform these tasks exactly the same.

1. Yes . The modification is directly active when the chip is soldered on the board.
2. Although the FPGA is pogrammed on Most PS2 Chips and work 100% - Most can also be reprogrammed with a Different or More Suitable operating Bios with Different Features.
3. Some Modchips use a 5Volt Power Rail and Some Modchips a 3.3V Power Rail- Some use different Chips in Manufacturing and Some teams Use their own operating Bios or Lend other Team Bios for their Hardware Chips
example: Modbo mainly use
Matrix Infinity 1.83 Bios .
Matrix Infinity 1.88 Bios .
Matrix Infinity 1.91 Bios .
Matrix Infinity 1.93 Bios .
Matrix Infinity 1.99 Bios .
Toxic Bios is Flashed on Some Batches of Modbo 4.0 NEW Version.
These Variables will end up having different effects on different Model Playstation 2 in terms of Reliability . Stability . Boot Times . Extra Wear and Tear .
We are always Glad to recommend Certain Chips for Certain Model Playstation 2 Consoles after using and Testing many PS2 Chips and Ps2 Console Types.
For Your Model SCPH 79004 : We Recommend and Use:
Modbo 4.0
Modbo 750
Modbo 745
Mars Pro HD
M-Chip M7
Matrix Infinity
But our greatest Recommendation is Matrix Infinity and Second Best is Mars Pro HD and then the Modbo Chips.
We Hope this answers your Questions Clearly
