XenoGC Status LEDs:
The XenoGC 2.0 features two status LEDs to indicate correct function. The red LED is active when the drive resets and the chip is doing its job. Once the drive has been patched successfully, the green LED will light up. Check your install if you only get the red LED, or it doesnt light up at all.
Xeno GC green LED will light up when a game disc is inserted.
XenoGC Modchip Versions:
Xeno GC Version:
it is impossible to tell the difference
in chip version until you install it in a gamecube
because they look the same on the outside.
Here is what I gather from forums about the versions:
XenoGC Version 1.1 -
- when you hold start while booting, the
screen shows BIOS v 1.01, but has NO MENU.
XenoGC Version 1.5 - XenoGC Version 2.0
- when you hold start while booting, the
menu says XenoGC Shell v 1.05, shows the
contents of the disc, and ALLOWS BOOTING
MULTI-GAME DISCS.
Unfortunately the XenoGC is a simple drive chip, not upgradeable by DVD.
XenoGC Installation:
Xeno GC will only work properly with correct installation- we have consoles sent to us with XenoGC not functioning due to one or more solder contact points not soldered correctly - we always recommend a wire installation for less experienced fitters - as you will be certain correct contact is made to the Drive board contact points and is easy to remove and re-install on another Gamecube later.
XenoGC 2.0 is a drive chip and it is known that some Gamecube lasers burn out after using low quality brand discs ( Qoob Chips do not have this problem as they are installed on the Gamecube Mainboard ) and have less effect on the Gamecube Laser drive unit.
Good reports for Ritek brand Mini DVD Media. Carefully Adjusting the Laser drive pot heads can help read different brands as well. Important also to keep your Gamecube and Homebrew discs clean.
