How to Check the Nintendo Wii System Versions:

 

 

1. Carefully Open the Nintendo Wii Cosnsole.

 

2. Gently Remove the Nintendo Wii Laser and Turn it upside Down . On the Underside of the Wii Laser assembly there is a small circuit Board.

Wii Software Modding

 

 

While often associated with physically modifying the hardware of a device, modding can also be achieved with software. Released in early 2008, Datel’s Freeloader for the Wii was capable of circumventing region restrictions. Its release was met with skepticism in the modding community, as many "soft" mods in the past were defeated when the manufacturer released new firmware for the device. In June of 2008, Nintendo’s System Menu 3.3 update successfully prevented Datel’s method of "soft" modding.

On 25th October 2008, a Backup Launcher 0.3 beta released by WiiGator which makes it possible that DVD-R disks burned from backup ISO files can be played on a soft-modded Wii. While most games are playable, some will not run due to compatibility issues. Disc read speed is limited to 3x (compared to 6x for normal games) which leads to many games having video playback stutters and slightly longer load times. These issues are usually minor and don't affect the actual gameplay. However, Wiigator seems to have not made any updates to this program, and with the release of Neogamma by WiiPower (a modification of Backup Launcher), it has now become redundant. To complete the installation process one must use the Bannerbomb program. The Twilight Princess Hack no longer works since Nintendo released system menu 4.0 in mid-2009. If your Wii is using system menu 4.0 or higher you must use Bannerbomb to softmod your Wii.

Turn your Wii into a home media center with support for many popular music and video formats including MP3, AVI, MP4, etc. By unlocking your Nintendo Wii you can play lots of homebrew applications and access homebrew channels such as Wii Earth and Pong.

 

When you unlock your Wii will be able to play all sorts of new formats (You’ll be able to play music and video formats including MP3, AVI, MP4, etc.)

 

You can also play imported games from all regions including USA (NTSC) and Europe (PAL). One of my favorites, you can now play games from Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis and other classic consoles right from your Wii.

 

 

 

 

 

Nintendo Wii Error Codes - SoftMod Wii console.       Nintendo Wii Error Numbers           -1035: (if ret-1035 read further down) Error when installing IOS36 with trucha bug restorer on sys menu’s 4.1 and below.     -1: SD/USB Loader Error Hardware not recognized. Most likely have an old cIOS installed, installed incorrectly or missing. Possibly formatted the SD card or USB incorrectly, is unsupported, or not enough space.     -1: Wad Install Error If a file was needed, then it was not in the correct folder. cIOS installed incorrectly, out of date, or missing. If you are using cios38rev14 installer, put ios38-64-3610.wad file in the root of the SD card. Each program needs its files in specific folders, so pay attention to that. Can also be a bad wad or not enough space on the Wii. Possibly formatted the SD card incorrectly.     DVD  Error -2: Backup Launcher Possibly a newer Wii with D3-2 drive that will not run blank DVDs or an out of date DVDx install. Install latest version of DVDx through the homebrew channel. Ensure application has also been updated to look for the correct version of DVDx (This changed with version 1.0.5)     -6: SD/USB Loader Error Partition not Found . Most likely have a cIOS installed incorrectly, out of date, or missing. Possibly formatted the device incorrectly or device is not compatible yet.     0: SD/USB Loader Error Corrupt ISO. Most likely patched incorrectly (you don’t have to patch region when using USB Loader).     001: Unauthorized Device Detected Most likely outdated firmware for your modchip. Possibly an outdated or missing IOS. Update to latest ios249     002: DVD Read Error / Anti-piracy security Most likely old or missing IOS. Install a newer IOS 249. There is a 002 fix that will fix most of the older games. uLoader includes this. Also some games require alternate dol loading method to play. see this post.     003: Unauthorized device on 4.2 No workaround on this yet, try unplugging any chips or whatever Nintendo thinks is unauthorized from the wii. Seems like Korean wiis are the most likely to get this error.     3: Wii disk channel unknown error at this moment.     102: Installing/Uninstalling WAD’s/Downgrading/Region Changing. If it’s a WAD files ticket just reinstall the WAD and then uninstall using Wad manager. If it’s a missing ticket due to a downgrade or region change then you may have a bricked Wii. Try to reinstall all IOS’s from original sources.     116: Network Connection Error. Failed to connect to the internet or previous installation failed.     324: DVD Read Error. Bad burn/media or no cIOS (like IOS 249). make sure the type of media you’re using is compatible with the Wii and/or your computer’s DVD Burner. Make sure you are using DVD-R discs, seeing as they are most compatible. Also try setting booktype to DVD-ROM. If using Win Vista/7 make sure burning with admin rights.     349: DVD Read Error Bad burn/media or most likely incorrect IOS. make sure the type of media you’re using is compatible with the Wii and/or your computer’s DVD Burner. Make sure you are using DVD-R discs, seeing as they are most compatible. Also try setting booktype to DVD-ROM. If using Win Vista/7 make sure burning with admin rights.     384: DVD Read Error. Bad burn/media or out of date IOS. make sure the type of media you’re using is compatible with the Wii and/or your computer’s DVD Burner. Make sure you are using DVD-R discs, seeing as they are most compatible. Also try setting booktype to DVD-ROM. If using Win Vista/7 make sure burning with admin rights.     574: DVD Read Error Bad burn/media or out of date IOS. May not be compatible with certain versions of backup launchers (new revs should fix this). make sure the type of media you’re using is compatible with the Wii and/or your computer’s DVD Burner. Make sure you are using DVD-R discs, seeing as they are most compatible. Also try setting booktype to DVD-ROM. If using Win Vista/7 make sure burning with admin rights.     579: DVD Read Error Bad burn/media or out of date IOS. May not be compatible with certain versions of backup launchers (new revs should fix this). make sure the type of media you’re using is compatible with the Wii and/or your computer’s DVD Burner. Make sure you are using DVD-R discs, seeing as they are most compatible. Also try setting booktype to DVD-ROM. If using Win Vista/7 make sure burning with admin rights.     972:DVD Read Error Bad burn/media or out of date IOS. make sure the type of media you’re using is compatible with the Wii and/or your computer’s DVD Burner. Make sure you are using DVD-R discs, seeing as they are most compatible. Also try setting booktype to DVD-ROM. If using Win Vista/7 make sure burning with admin rights.     1017: IOS Installation Error Most likely using an old or incorrect IOS, missing an IOS, or the IOS you’re trying to install cannot be installed on top of another. Fix it by installing a newer IOS 249 than the one you already have (if you don’t have it, try installing it). If you still get this error, fix it the same way as Error 2011.     1020: Wad Install Error Most likely missing trucha sign if you downgraded. Other issues are Out of date IOS or bad/incorrect wad. Memory might be full.     1022: Wad Install Error Most likely incorrect format or corrupt SD card. Memory might be full.     1029: Wad Install Error Most likely have cIOS 37 (or other outdated/incorrect IOS) still installed. Memory might be full. Wad may be corrupt (patched/injected incorrectly).     1035: Corrupt IOS Most likely caused by using incorrect or bad IOS/wad installations. Fix it the same way as Error 2011.     1036: Update error in Waninkoko’s 4.1 Updater do not use as it will download a stubbed IOS60 now which could brick your Wii.     1101: DVD Read Error. Bad burn/media or incorrect cios. make sure the type of media you’re using is compatible with the Wii and/or your computer’s DVD Burner. Make sure you are using DVD-R discs, seeing as they are most compatible.  Also try setting booktype to DVD-ROM. If using Win Vista/7 make sure burning with admin rights. Also this error will persist on newer wiis, meaning that they have the new D2-3 chip which cannot read backups at all. Only option for them is USB loading.     2011: Installation Error Most likely installed incorrect or out of date IOS. Click getting started and follow the guides to restore trucha bug to your system.     4100: Title Identification Error When using DVDs, most likely bad burn or media. As for wads, most likely an incorrectly injected wad (.dol and rom injections).       RET - Wii Error Codes List       ret -1: Wad Manager/Backup Launcher Reformat SD to FAT32. Make sure wad folder on root of card. Install a newer cIOS.     ret -2: Running games Unknown fix at present.     ret -116: No Wifi Check wifi setting in Wii system menu settings.     ret -122: USB Backup Launcher USB Drive is incompatible.     ret -1010: Waninkoko’s 4.2 Updater Not enough free space on the Wii’s internal memory. Free at least 250 blocks up.     ret -1017: Wad Manager Corrupt wad. re-download.     ret – 1027: DVD error Try a newer cIOS, loader or app and latest DVDx.     ret -1029: Downgrade error Uninstall cIOS37 and replace with latest cIOS38 (249)     ret -1035: Wad Manager/cIOS installer IOS choose to use does not have trucha bug. Restore it to that IOS or use an IOS that has it./ old version of cIOS already installed. Use any title deleter to remove IOS 249, then use latest cIOS38 installer to install new IOS249.     ret -1039: Waninkoko 4.1 updater. This is now out of date and will instant brick your Wii. If you have Boot2 as Boot2, restore an old nand, or use firmware downgrader 1.11 MOD or 1.24 to reinstall system menu from Bootmii.     ret -1136: Waninkoko 4.0 updater. This is now out of date and will instant brick your Wii. If you have Boot2 as Boot2, restore an old nand, or use firmware downgrader 1.11 MOD or 1.24 to reinstall system menu from Bootmii.     ret -2011: No trucha bug Reinstall the trucha bug. Probably better to follow and installation guide for your system menu version and start from scratch.     ret -4011: Wad Manager/Loader Bad wad, re-download. Black screen when using a loader. Possibly using cIOS rev 15. Use rev 14 instead       This installer can NOT continue! There is no known vulnerable IOS installed on this Wii. Please note that we will not use a fakesighned IOS Due to security reasons.   1) Hackmii installation failure it is a bug installed by the Hackmii team, which prevents Hackmii running under a fakesigned ios36. You will most likely get this when you are trying to install hackmii with a modified ios36, trucha bug or any other way. Install a clean ios36 and retry.       Upside down HBC problem: This will happen when the ios HBC runs on (press home button on HBC to see it) is trucha signed. Installing latest HBC may fix the problem or reinstall a clean version of that IOS.

Enhancements to the Internet Channel

• A Keyboard inserted into a USB port on the console can be used for text input (such as typing a URL or writing an email).
• During text input using the Wii Remote, the B Button can be pressed to activate the "Shift" function of the onscreen keyboard.
• Specific text on the page can now be highlighted with the Wii Remote. Once highlighted, click the "Search" to populate the search field with that text.
• It is now possible to edit the web address (URL) of the page currently being viewed on the Internet Channel.
• The "Page Information" icon will be visible on all pages while browsing, even if the tool bar is hidden. In addition, "Page Information" has been enhanced to provide you a description of the page's security level; a "Send" button is available to send the page to a friend; a "www" button is provided to edit the current URL and browse to a new page.

  Nintendo has updated the Check Mii Out Channel with a variety of new functions designed to enhance your experience. These include:
  • The ability to view up to 500 Miis after clicking "Popular" in the Posting Plaza.
  • A new button on the Posting Plaza that allows you to view Miis that you have designed and posted.
  • The ability to view Miis created by a specific Mii Artisan from his or her profile screen in the Posting Plaza.
  • The addition of Parental Controls. As with all other parental controls on Wii, if activated, a PIN code will be required to use the channel.

• Enhancement to the Mii Channel
  With this update, you can now move a Mii from the Mii Plaza to the Mii Parade in the Mii Channel. To do this, simply pick up a Mii using the A and B Buttons and then release it over the Mii Parade icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
• Unauthorized Modifications to Save Files
  Because unauthorized modifications to save files may impair game play or the Wii console, updating to Wii Menu version 3.3 will check for and automatically remove such save files. In addition, there are some behind the scenes enhancements that do not affect any prominently-used features or menus but will improve system performance.

Wii Menu 4.0 includes the following:

• The Wii console can now use SDHC (SD High Capacity) Cards with a maximum of 32GB of storage.
• The SD Card Menu, which allows you to launch titles directly from an SD or SDHC Card, is added to the Wii menu
• The Wii Shop Channel will now allow you to download titles directly to an SD or SDHC Card.
• The Wii console's Data Management menu has been enhanced to make it easier to copy and move stored items on an SD Card or the Wii console's system memory.

Wii Modchips have been around for a while now, with the first modchip being released just 3 months after the Wii Consoles official launch. Nintendo has continued to block out modchips with new hardware revisions, and the hacking teams have always been able to adapt their modchips to these new drives. Even though we have stocked 15~20 types of modchips, the features of the modchips have always remained very similar. With a mod chip on the Wii console, you are able to play games you backup, and a certain number of games from other regions. It wasn't until June 2009 when the FlatMii team announced a massive breakthrough. They were able to emulate a DVD drive inside a modchip, and you could load ISOs from your computer. They failed to capitilize on the Wii market because the product needed you to have a PC next to your Wiii all the time!

WODE = Wii Optical Drive Emulator

One of the developers of WODE was sitting in an Audi, and was playing around with the "JukeBox" function of his CD player. His Audi allows him to insert an original music disc, and have the CD player rip the music to a hard drive in the car. He thought to himself, if i can legally do this in my Audi, why can't we do this with the Wii? Why can't we have a "JukeBox" style Wii modchip that allows you to rip games to a USB Hard Drive! You can put all your wii games onto 1 harddrive, plug it into the modchip, and keep your originals in mint condition. This was in September 2008! They have managed to keep their project secret until recently, when they unleashed the news onto the world.

WODE, how does this modchip work?

The Wii WODE modchip is packaged like the original docking station of the Wii. Which means the end product is nice and clean, and it looks like an enhancement, rather than minimizing the sleek look of the Wii. The product has an inbuilt LCD screen for scrolling through all of your games. You navigate the menu of the WODE through by using a little joystick, which is similar to what you would find in most Nokia phones.

 

 

2 Modes, 1 Modchip

The WODE modchip has 2 modes. WODE mode, and "Flat Mod" mode. The Flat Mod mode is the same as modchips like the Drivekey and WasabiDX. It will allow you to play backups of games in DVD format on all compatible drives (DMS to D3 version 1). Since the WODE modchip is emulating a DVD drive, it should never be able to be blocked. Logic states that if they block the WODE in WODE mode, they would block out an original DVD drive from working!

Why WODE is the ultimate product for the Wii.

WODE is based off linux, which means its expandable. The firmware of the product can be upgraded easily via an SD card. You drag the firmware on an SD card, put it in the SD card slot on the WODE, and turn the WODE on.

 

 

Because WODE is based on Linux, there are an insane amount of applications that are already developed that just need to be tweaked for WODE hardware. One idea which is being developed for future release is the ability to load ISOs via WiFi. Instead of plugging in a HDD, you plug in a USB wifi module, set up an APACHE server on your computer and via SAMBA load your ISO file. Of course, this is only for all the hardcore customers out there, if you don't know what APACHE means, just stick to loading via HDD.

WODE FAQ

 

Q: I have a modchip soldered in already, will WODE still work
A: Yes. WODE is a 2 in 1. You can disable the "flatmod" version and keep using your modchip.

 

Q: I have a solderless modchip installed (Drivekey, wasabiDX etc), will WODE still work?
A: Yes, it should. Since you have a solderless modchip though, you can probably take it out and sell it /give it to a friend. It will no longer be needed as the WODE has inbuilt flatmod

 

Q: My DVD drive is faulty, my laser is weak etc. Will WODE still work?
A: WODE is a total drive emulator. So you don't even need your DVD drive plugged in! However with cool features like disc ripping, you will need a working DVD drive.

 

Q: If I preorder WODE via credit card, will my card be charged right away, or when stock ships?
A: Right away. Sorry, when stock comes in, we will be getting it out the door the same day. It is a lot easier for us to run the store this way.

 

Q: If I remove the WODE, is my wii returned back to its original state?
A: Yes, like all solderless modchips, there are no modifications made to your wii software at all

 

Q: Can I still go online with WODE? Will my games still save properly?
