Updateability of D2CKey using d2prog - 2008-03-04

Yes the Latest Manufacturing change has come about to improve production costs of the latest Wii Consoles in the Form of a Modified Wii Drive board being hailed D2C2 or D2C-2. As a result the standard D2C modchip firmware does not function on them - In answer Modchip developers for the Wii have released some new firmwares to work on the newer consoles.

 

 

Since the announcement of the new d2prog programming device , we have received a lot of emails from people asking us about the updatability of D2CKey. We would like to respond by saying that although D2CKey is technically updateable, and compatible with d2prog, we have never published updatability as a feature of D2CKey. That said, if any issues with D2CKey do arise in the future, we will endeavor to provide an update now that the d2prog device has been made available. However, due to the way that D2CKey interacts with the drive, there is not much that can be changed via an update. Please keep in mind that D2CKey has proven incredibly versatile and reliable to date, and an update has not been necessary thus far. Some people have also asked us whether or not a D2CKey can be upgraded to a d2pro: The simple answer to this is that it cannot, due to the extra hardware components d2pro includes. D2CKey and d2pro are physically different chips. One final note: If you have a D2CKey already installed in your console, you are not missing out on anything! If you have a D2CKey which hasn't been installed yet, all this means is that you have some extra wires to solder. It will still do everything that a d2pro can do once installed!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

D2CKey Works Flawlessley on GC2-D1 and GC2-D1A - Confirmed! - 2008-01-16

 

 

 

Following rumors of issues with D2CKey on some of the newer chipsets, we are pleased to report that D2CKey has been tested with both the GC2-D1 and GC2-D1A chipsets and has been found to be working flawlessly. There has also been some confusion relating to different 'versions' of D2CKey. We would like to make it clear that there has only been one version of D2CKey since the official launch. Different batches of D2CKey may have different manufacturing codes printed on the PCB and the two LEDs may be different colors, but the functionality is identical. There is only one version of D2CKey in the market, and there are no plans to release a new version since D2CKey is working perfectly!

The overall system performance of D2Ckey is 350Mhz, compared to around 8MHz for serial-port based modchips.

D2Ckey uses the latest flash-based FPGA technology from Actel, which has many powerful features. It has a super-fast, ultra-low-power 1.5V core that will literally remain cool all the time. This means no strain on your Wii (and there is no need recalculate your carbon footprint).

Another powerful feature is that the programming is protected by powerful AES128 encryption, making reverse engineering attempts infeasible. Therefore it will be very difficult to find a way to detect or block the chip in any way in the future. In the past modchips and smartcards using less secure devices have eventually been hacked, making it possible to detect them and lock out modified systems. An example of this are self-updating d2mac and unofficial Conax satellite tv cards, whose MK's have been revoked, rendering the card inoperable.
